The British Metropolitan Police in London announced the arrest of 53 people last night due to the stadium invasion and attempts to breach security measures at Wembley Stadium before the Champions League final match between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.
Dani Carvajal and Vinicius Junior scored two goals in the second half to lead Real Madrid to a 2-0 victory and increase its record for the number of times it has won the tournament to 15.
There was a storming of the stadium during the first minute of the match, when three people entered the stadium separately.
The police added that they also arrested several people for trying to enter the match without tickets.
“We are confident that the vast majority of attempts to illegally gain access to Wembley Stadium this evening have been unsuccessful thanks to the efforts of officers, supervisors and other stadium staff,” Metropolitan Police Chief Superintendent Louise Pudfoot said in a statement.
She added: “Officers arrested 53 people at Wembley, including five on charges of storming the stadium and the majority of the others for attempts to breach security measures. She emphasized: Major sporting events often witness attempts by those who do not hold tickets to cross the fence surrounding the stadium or enter in another way.
A Wembley Stadium spokesman said he condemned the actions of the stadium intruders. He explained: All the people were arrested. We will support the relevant authorities to ensure appropriate action is taken.
In 2021, during the final match of the 2020 European Championship between England and Italy at Wembley Stadium, clashes occurred between fans and officials in and around the stadium, as many fans tried to enter the stadium without tickets.
