The Arab world reacted today (Friday) to the assassination of Ibrahim Akil, who was the head of Hezbollah’s operations department, and the right-hand man of the terrorist organization’s secretary general, Hassan Nasrallah.
The Saudi commentator Abdullah al-Hatila wrote: “Israel insulted Iran and its arms in the region with high-quality blows that killed and wreaked havoc. The response of Iran and its arms is limited to murdering chickens and burning weeds.”
A Lebanese journalist writes that Israel’s goal is to force Hezbollah to respond so that this will be a pretext for a major Israeli operation against Lebanon. The Prime Minister of the Transitional Government in Lebanon, Najib Mikati, responded to the assassination and the beeper attack this week, saying that this was an “unprecedented security earthquake, which caused thousands of victims, including the wounded and dead. This is a shameful crime, akin to genocide and massacre. We are raising this issue before the community the international community and the human conscience – as guilt towards the Israeli enemy.”

Al-Jazeera wrote: “Israel’s actions against Hezbollah go beyond harming its commanders; they break the trust between the group and the surrounding community, which has always believed that they were protected by a highly professional military and security apparatus.”
Syrian journalist Nur Golan: “In essence – the role of the Hezbollah militia ended after it participated with all its abilities with its colleagues in the destruction of countries and economies and armies and societies of the region. Its presence is no longer necessary for the next phase.”
