The Mega Millions is approaching the $1 billion plateau – a level reached by only nine lottery jackpots ever.
No one won Tuesday night’s drawing, so the Mega Millions jackpot is estimated to be $977 million for Friday night’s drawing, according to the Mega Millions website.
The jackpot remains the sixth largest Mega Millions ever and 10th largest U.S. lottery history (see lists below).
The jackpot was last won on Dec. 8 when two California tickets sold at same location split $394 million Mega Millions jackpot.
Did anyone win the Mega Millions?
The Jackpot was not won, but the Mega Millions website reports that there were 2,167,646 winning tickets in Tuesday’s drawing.
Four tickets sold in California, Florida, Texas and Virginia matched the five white balls for a million-dollar prize. Also 41 tickets won third-tier prizes worth at least $10,000.

How do I play Mega Millions?
The cost is $2 per ticket, but you can add the Megaplier for $1, which will increase the amount of your potential prize up to five times the original prize (except for the jackpot).
Each player selects five numbers from 1 to 70 for the white balls and one number from 1 to 25 for the Mega Ball. However, you can also have the lottery machine generate a random Quick Pick for you.
