The Netanya defender could have presented a better game
Maccabi Haifa can breathe easy again. The ability did not bring with it a big row, but after the canceled draw against Tiberias City, Barak Becher’s greens came back to win with 1:2 over Maccabi Netanya and took advantage of Hapoel Beer Sheva’s loss of points to narrow the gap From the top to four points after the 15th round of the season.
As mentioned, Maccabi Haifa does not have too much to take from this game beyond the three points. But in a season where nothing goes easily for the runner-up, it’s really not obvious, certainly considering the quality of the game that still doesn’t rise to a high level. Maccabi Netanya of Yossi Abouxis can definitely feel disappointed, after it was worth at least a point in this game.
Bacher, as in almost every game of the season, made several changes. The coach returned to the formation of the three brakes and placed Mathias Nahoel for the first time as an attacking midfielder under Dia Saba and Din David, and at least at the beginning, the cooperation between the three seemed promising. Already in the tenth minute, a beautiful team move that started with Haval, continued on the heels of Dia Saba and ended with Dean David’s 11th goal of the season in the league.
However, this season’s Maccabi Haifa is a team that has trouble keeping a clean sheet, and this time they failed to do so as well. In the 27th minute, Iyad Halaili tripped Ribarto Tabarash in the area, Greenfeld rightly pointed to the penalty spot and from there, Igor Zlatanovich gave the guest a well-deserved equalizer that lasted until the break.
Five minutes into the second half, a huge sigh of relief was heard in Sami Ofer, when Dia Saba swung his left leg and scored his eighth goal of the season. Until the end, Haifa didn’t attack much, while Maccabi Netanya was dangerous and came up with several opportunities, when they suffered from bad luck and the good ability of Sherif Kiof between the posts. Haifa, at least temporarily, is in third place in the table with 30 points, when it will meet its black sheep in the next round – Bnei Raina. Netanya, which seems to be on the right track overall, is in tenth place with 14 points.
