It all started when Muhammad Ammar and his friend decided to turn their love for cats into a project in the Al-Mansour area in central Baghdad, serving these gentle creatures and humans alike.

Imagine a peaceful place, full of gentle meow sounds and fun cat toys, where you can enjoy a hot cup of coffee while playing with friendly, pet cats. This is Meowzone, a place that was born from a dream of providing a safe and comfortable environment for cats, and an opportunity for people to interact with them. And providing care for her, as described by the café owner, Muhammad Ammar, while speaking to Al Jazeera Net.

Muhammad says, “We wanted to establish a place that provides cats with a decent life, where they receive the necessary attention and care. Many people love cats but cannot raise them in their homes for various reasons. Therefore, we decided to be the ones who bear responsibility for these wonderful creatures.”

Muhammad explains: The project began with a few cats that were rescued from the streets, or those that were abandoned by their owners, and over time, the place expanded and became a haven for many domestic cats that need special care, stressing the importance of providing a healthy and safe environment for cats, where they are examined regularly. Prepared by a veterinarian and fed with the best types of food.

Muhammad was not alone on this journey, as he received great support from his father, the artist Ammar Al Nuaimi, who contributed to designing and decorating the place. The project also received wide attention from the community, as many worked to promote and spread it through social media.

Muhammad stressed, “We are committed to providing the best possible care for our pet cats, and we have a specialized team that provides comprehensive veterinary care, including periodic examinations, vaccinations, and providing high-quality food. We are also keen to teach our visitors, especially children, how to deal with cats with kindness and respect, to ensure A fun and safe experience for everyone.

Cats are another world

Dania, an employee at the café, explains to us her role in this magical place, saying that her main task is to take care of the cute cats. She cleans their places, trains them in good behavior, and provides all the food and drink they need. In addition, Dania feels great happiness teaching children how to treat cats with kindness and respect, instilling in them a love and care for animals.

Speaking to Al Jazeera Net, Dania added that the café is a quiet and beautiful place, where visitors feel comfortable and relaxed, noting that many of the café’s visitors have cats in their homes, and they come to us to learn more about how to care for their cats and how to enhance communication between their cats and other cats in the café.

Haneen Raad, one of the visitors to this special place, explained that we as a people need to raise awareness of the importance of gentle treatment of animals, especially cats, stressing that violence against animals is completely unacceptable.

Hanin stressed the importance of this place in teaching children how to deal with cats properly, and instilling a love for animals in them, which contributes to spreading a strong message against violence directed at cats, especially in the streets.

Malek Muthanna, one of the cafe’s visitors, describes the place as comfortable, tidy, and quiet, and considers it a great idea that provides the opportunity to get closer to cats.
