After the end of the month of fasting, praying, and reading the Qur’an, and on the first day of the blessed month of Shawwal, many Egyptians began searching for the ruling on fasting the six days of Shawwal and their virtues and rewards. This is what the Egyptian Fatwa House explained in its response to the question: What is mentioned about the virtues and rewards of fasting the six days of Shawwal? ?

In his fatwa statement, Dr. Shawqi Allam, the Grand Mufti of the Republic, explained that it was mentioned in the honorable Sunnah that it was urged to fast six days of Shawwal after completing the Ramadan fast, and that this is equivalent in reward to fasting an entire year. Imam Muslim narrated in his “Sahih” on the authority of Abu Ayyub Al-Ansari, may God be pleased with him, that the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family, said: “Whoever fasts Ramadan and then follows it with six days of Shawwal, it will be like fasting for a lifetime.”

The explanation that this equals this amount of reward, Allam says: is that a good deed is rewarded ten times its equivalent; Al-Bukhari narrated on the authority of Abdullah bin Amr, may God be pleased with them both, that the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family, said: “Indeed, a good deed is multiplied ten times as much,” and therefore: Fasting the month of Ramadan is equivalent to fasting ten months, and fasting six days of Shawwal is equivalent to sixty days equal to two months, so the total is Twelve months complete the year.

His Eminence the Mufti pointed out that this was stated in what was narrated by Al-Nasa’i in “Al-Kubra” and Ibn Khuzaymah in his “Sahih” on the authority of Thawban, may God be pleased with him, the servant of the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family, that the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family, said: “Fasting the month of Ramadan is ten days months, and fasting six days of Shawwal for two months; That is fasting for a year.”

Ibn Majah narrated on his authority that the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him and his family, said: “Whoever fasts six days after breaking the fast has completed the Sunnah. Whoever does a good deed will receive ten times its reward.”

Imam Al-Qarafi said in “Al-Dhakhira” (2/531, ed. Oh. From what was mentioned, the answer to the question is known.

only God knows.
