A revolution in the holiday of Purim: Are you tired of fattening meals being delivered? This is how you upgrade it

Delivery of dishes (photo by Baruch Halevi)

The holiday of Purim will take place later this week, and with it also one of the happy and heartwarming customs that many of us do – distributing parcels. Most of the deliveries consist of snacks and unhealthy foods, containing sugar, saturated fat, salts, food colorings and more. So just before you go to prepare a meal delivery, Shira Solo, a clinical dietitian and lecturer at the Levinsky Wingate Academic Center, explains how we can also incorporate healthy ingredients into our meal delivery.

In recent years, we have witnessed an increase in the consumption of processed food, which leads to an increase in morbidity, therefore, it is recommended and desirable to diversify the portion deliveries, so that they also contain healthier products. Also, parcel delivery can be based on a combination of non-food products, as some kindergartens and schools have been doing in recent years. It is possible to determine that the package delivery will consist of a non-food surprise such as a mask, a rattle, a small pot, a product purchased as a donation to a certain association, and more.

More in-

It is certainly possible to choose a certain theme or concept for the delivery of the dishes, here are a few ideas:

Delivery of fruit-based dishes
A tray of fresh cut fruits or fruit sushi, dried fruits (without added sugar, food colors and preservatives), juice squeezed from fruits only, high quality jam. You can also add a small pot or seeds for planting spice plants.

Delivery of dishes based on products prepared at home
Such a package delivery can consist of homemade manna ears, coconut-coated date and cocoa balls, oat cookies, homemade granola or store-bought handmade granola. You can buy a nice jar and put the granola in it.

Delivery of dishes based on nuts, almonds and vegetable oils
In this concept you can put a variety of nuts, almonds and natural seeds, you can add a bottle of quality olive oil, olives in a jar, pesto spread, olive tapenade, dried tomato spread and more. You can add quality grain bread or home-baked challah.

Additional foods that can be combined with dish deliveries
Dark chocolate with high percentages of cocoa, wine, handmade pastries (it is good to combine them with wholemeal flours as well)

Dark chocolate and walnut filling:
75 grams of dark chocolate 70% cocoa
2 tablespoons of cream 15% fat
1 egg

Filling dates and nuts:
200 grams of natural date spread (no added sugar)
A teaspoon of cinnamon
Zest from one lemon
1/2 cup ground walnuts
Mix all the ingredients to a uniform mixture.

Cut out circles from the dough, place a spoonful of the filling in the center of each circle, fold so that the shapes of manna ears are formed. Place on a tray lined with baking paper and put in the fridge for about two hours.
Heat the oven to 170 degrees. Bake for about 14 minutes until the dough is firm, refrigerate and serve.
