Yesterday (Monday) the minister visited Haifa and informed the mayor about a series of projects she is promoting for the benefit of the residents of Haifa. Among other things, the minister referred to the start of Air Haifa flights from the airport in the city and this is what she said, according to a press release issued immediately after the end of the meeting: and is expected to serve about 2 million passengers a year.
“Minister Regev directed to promote solutions for public transportation and parking lots near the port for the benefit of the traveling public, upgrading the airport and extending the runway so that a flight from Haifa to the entire Mediterranean basin would be possible.”
A few hours later, unofficial messages were issued by the companies stating that things are not true and there are no plans to start flights starting this month. Furthermore, Air Haifa has opened a website, but as of now it only has an ad looking for employees and nothing else: no date of the start of flights, no option to book flights, no destinations to which it will fly, no aircraft fleet and nothing. Airlines allow you to book flights directly through their websites, which is profitable for them, but in the case of Air Haifa currently there is no such option.
Following inquiries from several reporters to the spokeswoman of the Ministry of Transportation, a few hours after the announcement of the “news” of the start of the flights, a corrective response was issued stating: “At the professional meeting that took place in Haifa, Minister Regev said that the first plane of Air Haifa will land in Israel at the end of July and then a licensing procedure will begin The first flight will depart in early September.”
Today (Tuesday) “Air Haifa” published an announcement according to which it will receive the first plane at the Haifa airport at the end of July and the licensing process will only be completed in September. The company also unveiled the company’s branding for the first time and said that the first completely new plane, an ATR 72-600 model with 72 seats, will take off from Blagnac Toulouse Airport in France, and land at Haifa International Airport. During the following months the company will receive two more aircraft of this model.
