Al-Raed advances over Al-Wahda… and Al-Ittihad loses the opportunity for the third

Al-Raed and Al-Wahda teams exchanged positions on the first day of the 32nd round of the Roshan Saudi League, after Al-Raed’s victory over its host Al-Wahda 1-0, making the victorious team in 12th place and Al-Wahda dropped to 13th place. Al-Ittihad lost on the same day, Friday 16 May 2024, the opportunity to compete for third place after drawing with Al-Khaleej 1-1, while Al-Taei made a significant step forward after its victory over its guest Al-Fateh 3-1. Al-Taie increased his score to 31, temporarily ahead of the Riyadh, Abha and Al-Ukhdood teams, waiting for all or some of them to stumble, to shake off the dust of the penultimate 17th place that stuck with him in the previous two rounds.

Al-Khaleej snatched an important point from Al-Ittihad in the match that took place under its hospitality at Prince Mohammed bin Fahd Stadium in Dammam, and now has a new score of 37 points, needing two points, to move away definitively from danger centers without paying attention to the competitors’ results. Al-Khaleej started the second half of its match against Al-Ittihad late with a goal by Muhannad Al-Shanqeeti, which came in stoppage time of the first half. Mohamed Sharif was able to score an equalizer in the 81st minute, and that goal completely removed Al-Ittihad (51 points) from the field of competition for third place, before Al-Ahly faced its guest Abha on Saturday evening.

Al-Wahda lost its 12th place, in favor of its competitor, Al-Raed, who defeated it with a goal scored by Moroccan Karim El-Barkawi, with his head, against his compatriot Mounir El-Mohammadi, Al-Wahda’s goalkeeper. The two teams were equal in number of points (35 points each), but Al-Raed outperformed Al-Wahda by 6 goals. In the remaining two rounds, Al-Raed will face Al-Ahly and Damak teams. As for Al-Wahda, it will be a guest of Al-Akhdood in the next round, before concluding its season by meeting Al-Hilal at its home stadium in Mecca.

The 12th place is the best position Al-Raed has ever achieved throughout the current season, and that position he occupied in the 25th round, then dropped before returning to it again in the 32nd round.

The Al-Taie team received a good morale boost, by defeating its guest Al-Fateh 3-1, at the opening of the 32nd round competitions, after falling behind to a very early goal by Djanini Tavares in the fourth minute. Al-Tai equalized through his German player Robert Bauer in the 12th minute. The tie between the two teams continued until the 83rd minute when Bernard Mensah scored the equalizer with his head. The same player returned to score the third goal 10 minutes into the match’s stoppage time. Al-Fateh played incompletely since the 57th minute, after the player Ali Al-Zubaidi was sent off, who was shown two yellow cards. Al-Fateh’s balance stopped at 42 points, with Al-Taei advancing to 31 points.
