Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp said that Egyptian star Mohamed Salah may return from injury against Manchester City, while he confirmed the readiness of winger Luis Diaz to face host Nottingham Forest on Saturday in the English Premier League.
The Forest match may witness the return of injured names, led by Uruguayan Darwin Nunez and Hungarian Dominik Soboszlai.
Klopp has been suffering from an injury crisis in recent weeks, which has led to the absence of many key players and forced him to resort to the club’s academy to fill the gaps.
The Portuguese Diego Jota, the Englishman Trent Alexander-Arnold, the Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson, the Englishman Curtis Jones, Salah, Nunez and Soboslai missed the victory in the English Professional League Cup at the expense of Chelsea last Sunday.
Diaz missed the victory over Southampton in the FA Cup last Wednesday.
Klopp informed reporters on Friday that Diaz and Maka (Alexis McAllister) are fine. Darwin (Nunez) and Dominic (Soboslai) trained with the team yesterday. So we’ll see how they react.”
Salah has not participated with the English Premier League leaders since his visit to Brentford on the 17th of last month, when he participated for a short period after suffering an injury in the African Cup of Nations, but he may participate against Manchester City, the title competitor, on the 10th of this March.
Klopp said: “I do not think that (the return of) Mohamed (Salah) is very far away. He will not participate tomorrow.. I think he (will play) next week. At any moment it will be possible.”
Liverpool’s youngsters performed at the required level in the absence of the main players, as 18-year-old Jayden Dans and Luis Comas scored their first goals with the first team in a 3-0 win over Southampton, which belongs to the first division, in the FA Cup.
Klopp said that his mission is to protect young people from the limelight.
The German coach added: “I know they are not ready for that. It was wonderful. They of course deserved the spotlight that night… but it is now about dealing with the challenges ahead.”
