Ahead of the final games of the season, Arsenal marked May 12 as the last real obstacle that could prevent them from winning the championship. If they finish in eighth place where they are now, only a win over Manchester City in the cup final will secure them a place in a European plant next season. This was the Red Devils’ ninth loss of the season at Old Trafford in all competitions. In doing so, they tied the third all-time record set five times previously – most recently 50 years ago.
Manchester City didn’t get any help from their city rivals, and Arsenal are hoping that’s exactly what will happen this Tuesday. The Citizens will be hosted by Tottenham, Arsenal’s city rivals who have made it very difficult for Pep Guardiola in recent years. All victory and the championship will come closer to Manchester again. A draw or less, and Arsenal will need a win over Everton in the final round to win the title for the first time in two decades.
