Biden and Trump will debate on June 27 and September 10

US President Joe Biden and his Republican rival, Donald Trump, agreed on Wednesday to hold two debates before the presidential elections, the first on June 27 and the second on September 10, after Biden challenged Trump to hold them, and the latter immediately agreed.

CNN announced in a statement on Wednesday that the first debate between the Democratic president and his Republican predecessor within the framework of the 2024 election campaign will be held via the network on June 27, at 21:00 local time.

CNN confirmed that the debate will take place in Atlanta, Georgia (southeast), without an audience, which is what Biden prefers.

Biden and Trump also announced on Wednesday, the first via the “X” platform and the second via his “Truth Social” network, that they will hold their second debate on September 10.

ABC confirmed that it will host the second debate.

Earlier Wednesday, the 81-year-old Democratic president, who is running for a second term in the presidential elections scheduled for November, challenged Trump, saying, “Right now he says he wants to debate with me again.” Biden added in a video clip, “In this case… I will do this twice,” the first in June and the second in September.

Former US President Donald Trump responded immediately via his network, Truth Social, saying, “I am ready and determined to hold a debate against ‘Crazy Joe’ on the proposed dates in June and September.”

Trump often uses the nickname “Crook Joe” to refer to his opponent.

Trump, 77 years old, added, “Tell me when and I will be there. It’s time for battle!!!”, considering his Democratic rival “the worst debater” he has ever met.

Trump said on his network, Truth Social, “I strongly suggest holding more than two debates.”

Unlike the Democratic camp, which demands a confrontation without an audience, Donald Trump considered that to add “more excitement” to the debate, it should take place in “a very large room, even if it seems that Biden is afraid of crowds.”

In a statement, Donald Trump’s campaign team proposed organizing four debates: in June, July, August and September.
