Billy Joel, Rod Stewart to perform at Paycor Stadium in September

All right, let’s get the program started. Uh, good morning, everybody. Welcome to PayCore Stadium. We appreciate you being here for this very special announcement. My name is Dan Hoard. I am the radio voice of the Cincinnati Bengals, meaning that I have the privilege of describing every Joe Burrow pass, Jamar Chase catch, Trey Hendrickson sack. And I am very excited to be here today to be involved in this announcement. It is great news for the city of Cincinnati, for Hamilton County, and for music fans throughout the Midwest. And now to find out who will be coming to the Queen City later this year, please welcome the CEO of Visit Cincinnati, Julie Calvert. OK, good morning, everyone. It’s great to be here with everyone, and Dan, thank you for your MC capabilities today. Always nice to hear your voice and see you in person, and Elizabeth the Bengals, thanks for having, um, for inviting me. And you know, I’m so honored and quite frankly, maybe *** little fangirling that I get to stand here with you for this exciting concert announcement. Events like this not only energize the region but also shine *** spotlight on downtown’s vibrancy for concertgoers. Tourism industries stats show 70% of people will travel for *** concert, and we know that that that that means big business. Music is *** part of the cultural heritage of our region and hosting *** mega event at Paycor Stadium not only celebrates that, but supports our local economy and draws visitors to our city. It’s *** prime opportunity to demonstrate our exceptional ability to host major events, and it also provides support for our hotels and restaurants, especially during the revitalization of our convention district. So, You didn’t come to hear that though. I’m sure you come to hear what we’re about to talk about next, but tourism is important. I’m always going to plug it. So without further delay, so who’s coming? We’re not getting just one Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, but two absolute music legends. Coming to Paycorp Stadium on Saturday, September 20th, are the piano man Billy Joel and forever young Rod Stewart. All right, I’m *** sportscaster, so I like stats. Here are *** few about Billy Joel and Rod Stewart. They have combined to win 7 Grammy Awards, as Julie mentioned. They are both in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They have combined to sell more than 270 million records, so it is going to be quite *** show. On September 20th, if you didn’t notice it on the screen, today, of course, is January 23rd. Tickets will go on sale in 8 days. So mark it down. Friday, January 30th at 10 a.m. they will go on sale and they will go fast. For more on what this event means to Hamilton County in this region, it is my pleasure to introduce County Commissioner Denise Treehouse. Thanks, Dan. Um, I am embracing my girl Fannyness because I am super excited about these concerts. Billy Joel and Rod Stewart. I will tell you *** quick story. When I was in grade school slash high school, *** friend of mine, Mary Anne, uh, we used to go over to her house and we would lay like this on the *** carpet after school and play Billy Joel records and her mom would come. To make sure everything was OK and we’d be eating snacks and listening to Billy Joel. So my history with Billy Joel and my fandom goes back *** long way, but what *** great, great opportunity to shine right in this region to bring these two icons into our community to have *** good time. My high school friends are already calling, Well yeah, you know, so it’s going to be super exciting. So I’m thrilled to be here. I must say that you know this facility, Paycorp Stadium, the citizens of this community own this stadium. And it’s your asset. And so to bring concerts of this magnitude into this facility is exactly what was intended and exactly what we want to continue to do in the future. And so I just want to say this is kind of we had Taylor Swift last time we had *** big concert. Now we’ve got Billy Joel and Rod Stewart, so we’re super, super excited about it. The other piece of this then is the economic development piece, and I know there are some business owners from the banks here today. Uh, where are you? There’s Jim Warring right there. Taste of Belgium is right across the street, ENO. We’ve got all kinds of great businesses that will benefit from the activity created from this concert and ongoing concerts. We need to make sure that we are providing, as government, as the county, year-round opportunities for people to come down to the bank. To patronize those that have taken the leap with us and set up shop down here on the banks. So Jim Moring, thank you for what you do, especially before the Bengals and the Reds games. I know you’re very busy. You can’t even get in the place, but, but anyways, thank you for being here and helping us celebrate the economic impact. And then there’s the impact really to the region, both to the city of Cincinna. In Hamilton County by way of revenues. We always welcome additional revenues at the county, and this gives us *** great opportunity to bring those in and then once again push that out by way of highlighting and exposing everyone to the great things we have here in Hamilton County and in this region. So with that it is *** real pleasure. Anthony Munoz and I, I just told him this story. We’re together every now and again, not often enough, mind you, but every now and again for celebrations such as this one. And one of the celebrations we did early on was receiving one of those big checks. I was with the recreation commission. He is who he is, so he was there as *** Hall of Famer and an icon in *** bank. Engels legend for all the things and so we held this big check together and the check went like that because I was, you know, holding and he, so I had to hold it like this and he held it like that and we did it together. So it’s my pleasure once again to recognize Hall of Famer Anthony Munoz. Good morning. I guess you’re wondering why *** football player is here, former football player. So I always share the story. So I have two kids. They both learned how to play the piano very well at *** young age. My son taught himself how to play the guitar in college. My wife is *** pretty good singer. May I say my musical town is listening. OK. So, uh, what *** great announcement for the city of Cincinnati, uh. To have two Hall of Famers come into our city. Uh, I’ve been *** fan of their work for *** long time, uh, at my age, it’s been *** long time. Uh, so, uh, you know, it’s amazing that At their age, not only have they had amazing careers, but they’re still at the top of their game. And uh that’s what’s exciting for for the city here is that uh they’re still performing at the top of their game, so I’m thrilled to be here with this great announcement for the city and uh it’s my pleasure to they said make it short and I’m very coachable, so I’m making it short. Good friend, Elizabeth Blackburn, I’m going to introduce you and come up and she’ll take over. So thank you. Well, good morning, everyone. What an exciting Thursday. On behalf of the Bengals, I have the pleasure of welcoming to the jungle to legendary musicians in Billy Joel and Rod Stewart. We are so proud to be part of the partnership and many important pieces that have helped make this concert come to life and bring these two incredible artists to Cincinnati this coming September. The concert promises to be an incredible night and an unforgettable evening that truly will create lasting memories for *** lifetime. I am fangirling as well, and I think it’s *** testament to Billy and Rod for their incredible artistic talents and performances that they foster fandom and community across time, generations, and of course space in Cincinnati and so many other amazing cities and arenas, stadiums and venues. They played at throughout their career we are so excited for this event to further showcase Paycor Stadium as *** premier venue that hosts world class entertainment and experiences like we have the pleasure of doing on Sundays throughout the fall. This will be an amazing Saturday this coming fall, so. I want to thank Live Nation, Hamilton County, all of the other Visit Cincinnati, so many stakeholders who’ve been part of this, and the Bengals really are proud to help bring major events to our community and advance the vibrancy of our culture. So thank you, and with that I will introduce Barry Gable with Live Nation. Day. Is this your phone? It’s Dan’s. Fantastic. Well, thank you. Thanks for all of our the media that’s here today, our special speakers. Dan, thank you so much for hosting today. It’s been an honor to meet Anthony. I’ve been *** big football fan, so fantastic, even though I’m from Cleveland and I’m *** Browns fan, I appreciate the Bengals Browns uh relationship that we’ve had. And once we find *** quarterback, maybe we’ll figure *** way to shine like you guys do. Anyway, Mark, as Dan said, mark your calendars, set your alarms. Tickets for this one night, one show only featuring Billy and Rod will go on sale this excuse me. Friday, January 30th first at LiveNation.com and Ticketmaster.com concerts. I’ve been doing this for 45 years. Unlike Rod Stewart says, it keeps you forever young. It really, these guys have been doing it for so long and like Anthony said, totally on top of their game. City Card members will be able to get tickets in advance by going to the City Entertainment app. That they have access to starting on Monday, January 27th at 10 a.m. and they’ll be able to get access to those tickets uh till Thursday, January 30th. Additional pre-sales if you’re *** Bengal season ticket holder, you’ll be able to get tickets. In advance starting Wednesday, the 29th, so I want to make sure you can get out there and get those tickets before the general public. Tickets start as low as this is great, $63.50 plus fees. So it’ll be *** phenomenal night where you’ll be able to see like. We were talking about all the amazing songs. The thing that’s really cool about this show is how multigenerational it is. If you can just think, and I saw Billy back in 1977 and I did his first show in 1981 up in Cleveland. I mean, it’s an unforgettable night of All hits all night long. Some of the most beloved songs that are the music, at least for me, the soundtrack of my life, you know, Billy has amassed an amazing number of accolades like Dan said, he’s in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Can you imagine getting inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by Ray Charles? I mean, that’s amazing and that’s one of Billy’s mentors. Billy just wrapped up doing 10 years at Madison Square Garden, 150 shows. Insane. Who does that? 150 shows, 10 years, and it, like I said, soundtrack of our lives. Piano Man. So that was written in 1973 and in 2016, uh, it was inducted into the registry of songs in Washington DC Amazing. And when You hear that song live. It is the biggest bar song that ever was written, you know, 50,000 people singing. Come on, sing with me. No, I know you won’t. But you know that song, when it’s sung in front of 50,000 people and Billy stops playing the keyboards and the band stops, it’s electric. It really is amazing. I’m looking forward to hearing 50,000 people singing that. Um, next year or on September 20th, Rod, two time inductee, I don’t know if you know that, he was inducted solo in 1994 and then again in 2012 as *** member of the band Faces. And if you remember the song Ooh La La, that was *** huge fur Faces. But He also was what you know, he was knighted in 2016 by the Queen, so everybody calls him now Sir Rod. So when you see him walking around the streets and you see him at the Holy Grail, make sure you direct him as Sir Rod. He’ll definitely be there. All right, um, one other thing I wanted to talk about which was amazing, we did the show last year and and I could not believe that it was the first time that Billy and Rod actually played together. We did that at Huntington Bank Field up in Cleveland. They had never performed together in *** concert. It was the first time. The highlight of the show besides both artists doing their entire sets. So Rod comes out in the middle of the Billy Joel set. And does stay with me. It was an amazing matter of fact, if anybody wants to give me their email address, I’ll send you the video from the song. You can Google it online. It was just an amazing, amazing night to have them do stay with me. Uh, in case you don’t remember, Billy played here back in 2021, played over at the Great American Ballpark, and the last time Rod played here was at Riverbend Music Center in 2022 in July. But 10 months from now when it’s not cold anymore, but it’ll be smoking hot, you’ll be able to see both of these acts at Paycor Stadium, and I’m looking, I’m looking forward to seeing the show again. One of my, I grew up on Long Island, so seeing Billy any time is always *** magical night and it brings me back to my engineer boots, tight jackets and tight blue jeans and so it’s really exciting. And if you know one other thing, I’ll finish up with Billy. He is so self-effacing. He’s what you see is what you see and what you get. He’s such *** nice guy. He’s donated millions of dollars to animal shelters on Long Island. He has donated *** lot of dollars to *** musical art school on Long Island. Um, so not only is he *** great performer, he really is *** good, *** really good guy and *** good human being. I want to thank the Bengals organization for having us today, and I really appreciate everybody coming out today. Again, tickets will go on sale next Friday and at Ticketmaster.com and LiveNation.com, it will be *** hot show. So thank you all for coming. And I appreciate it. If anybody, please stay. We have some great food and we’re going to have *** fabulous time on the 20th. Thank you Barry, that was great. Thank you very much, and we will cut you some slack for being *** Cleveland Browns fan. They were after all named for the most innovative coach in sports history, Paul Brown, so they got something right way back in the day. Yes, one other thing I wanted to, you know, while everybody’s here, I want you to look under your seat because I have *** special prize for somebody that’s lucky enough. So if you have *** second, just right now look under your seat. There might be *** tag that’s hanging out. Here she is our winner right here. Ah All right, don’t lose it, enjoy it. All right, I didn’t know there were going to be prizes. That’s pretty cool. Thank you all so much for attending today’s announcement. If you have time, feel free to stick around. We have lunch that’s available, and we look forward to seeing all of you hopefully on Saturday, September 20th, Billy Joel and Rod Stewart at Paycors Stadium. Thanks so much. Who Day and have *** great day.
