Bitcoin rises to a new record high, exceeding $109,000

The majority of cryptocurrencies rose during Monday’s trading, with Bitcoin recording a new record high hours before the inauguration of US President-elect Donald Trump.


Bitcoin touched its highest level ever at $109,350.72 during trading, before reducing its gains to 1.39% and recording 107,455.77 at 11:08 AM Mecca time.


Ethereum – the second largest cryptocurrency in terms of market value after Bitcoin – fell by 0.44% to $3,380.93, after recording $3,445.12 earlier in the day.


Ripple jumped 5.14% to $3.2278, and Dogecoin rose 1.86% to 37.81 cents.


The “Trump” cryptocurrency, which was launched by the forty-seventh US president last Friday, rose by 25% to $58.02.


The positive performance of the cryptocurrency market came as investors awaited Trump’s swearing-in ceremony later today, after his pledge to adopt supportive policies for the sector during his second term.
