“Cybersecurity” warns of social engineering threats from hackers

Abu Dhabi – Imad Al-Din Khalil
The UAE Government Cyber Security Council warned against social engineering attacks and threats by identifying these frequently used tactics, explaining that they are fraudulent tactics used by hackers to exploit human weakness.

The Council explained that social engineers impersonate responsible and influential figures, create an emergency, and exploit deals to launch mutual attacks, in addition to using intimidation to force victims to submit.
The Council identified 4 common social engineering attacks that you should pay attention to, so as not to fall victim to these hackers, which are: “phishing messages or deceptive websites, fabricating scenarios to obtain personal information, offering false rewards to obtain sensitive information, and using infected USB drives for unauthorized access.” .

The Council called for the need to strengthen defenses against these social engineering attacks, and the need to be vigilant, informed and protected against any cyber attacks targeting individuals, to seize their personal and other information.

In another context, the Cybersecurity Council stressed that while weak passwords are considered one of the main factors for hacking personal accounts, this signals the importance of taking preventive measures to protect our digital identity, by adopting password management tool solutions.
The Council noted that 35% of participants indicated that the weak password for their personal accounts was the reason for the security breaches they were exposed to, according to a recent study.

The Council provided several important tips to create a strong and secure password and avoid hacking of personal accounts, which are: “Use a unique password for each account, make the password at least 12 characters long, update important passwords regularly, and use a combination of letters, numbers, and symbols when creating the password.” .
