Conference on building the new republic…a cultural vision

Mahmoud Bassiouni, editor-in-chief of Akhbar Al-Youm newspaper, warned of the dangers of targeted media that threaten Egypt’s stability and national unity. In light of the increasing challenges facing Egypt at various levels, the role of the media is highlighted as a decisive strategic tool in preserving national identity and enhancing societal cohesion.

During his participation in the “Building the New Republic… A Cultural Vision” conference, held in Alexandria Governorate, Bassiouni stressed the need to firmly confront these tendentious media campaigns that strive to distort Egypt’s image and spread misleading information.

He pointed out that among the most prominent dangers of targeted media are the following: double standards: some foreign media outlets practice a biased policy that ignores facts and exaggerates errors in the service of hostile political agendas, and incitement to hatred, as some media platforms seek to spread toxins of discord and spread hate speech among various segments of Egyptian society. .

Media disinformation: information is manipulated and false and misleading news is published with the aim of influencing public opinion and causing chaos.

Therefore, Bassiouni called for taking decisive steps to confront these challenges, including: Building a strong national media system capable of keeping pace with developments and providing objective and honest media content that honestly reflects the Egyptian reality.

Supporting print journalism: by providing it with the necessary resources to ensure its continued role in spreading awareness and promoting national values.

Enhancing critical thinking skills: among various groups of society, especially young people, to enable them to verify the validity of information before sharing it on social networking sites.

Activating the role of civil society institutions: in spreading awareness about the dangers of media misinformation and promoting a culture of national solidarity. Partnership with major technology companies: to combat the spread of fake news and block offensive content.

Bassiouni stressed that the responsibility of confronting targeted media lies with everyone, the government and the people. Through cooperation and solidarity, we can build a fortified awareness that protects our society against the dangers of this media and contributes to building a bright future for Egypt, a future dominated by security, stability and prosperity, a future that preserves national identity and enhances the values of tolerance and respect.
