Hapoel B.S. will enter a new era next season, without one of the biggest symbols in the club’s history, coach Eliniv Barda. Owner Alona Barkat is looking for a new coach and the options on the table are Sharon Mimar, Masai Dago and Ofir Haim. Also Ran Kozouch, who won the cup with Maccabi F T at the expense of BS, was among the names, but Avi Luzon is expected to meet with him next week to sign him for another season with the Malavas.
Sharon has a contract with Bnei Rayna, which he only signed in the middle of last week, but he included a release clause in it for Maccabi Tel Aviv, Maccabi Haifa and Hapoel BS. The clause will be in effect until 6/30, so bringing it in is possible.
Regarding Dago, there is appreciation for the work he did at Maccabi Haifa, although Hapoel Tel Aviv is also interested in him and offered him a two-year contract. In addition, Bnei Yehuda is interested in Dago, but it is quite clear that an appeal from the Negev capital would change the whole picture.
Ofir Haim, who is doing a great job in the youth teams, is another name on the table. Haim already refused Hapoel Tel Aviv this summer and he is satisfied with his work with the young players, but even in his case, an offer from BAS is something that will change the plans.
In fact, the ball is now in Alona Barkat’s hands. Those around her said that it was difficult for her to make the decision about not fulfilling the clause in Eliniv Barda’s contract. The latter stated in a post that he published that he was promised that he would continue and he was sure that would happen, but the conversation at Barkat’s house spoiled the cards. In the end, as published here, the dispute was over the procurement budget and the players’ wages for the next season. Currently, there is no intention to increase the budget, perhaps even the opposite.
At the club level, Hapoel BS went through a kind of professional earthquake this weekend. “Eliniv Barda is not another one in this club,” explained players in the team, “we were surprised like everyone else. We still hadn’t digested the loss in the cup final and then this news hit us. Now everything is fresh, so it’s hard to imagine Hapoel BS without Barda, but there is a strong and stable ownership here and in the end you have to understand that the club is above everyone else.”

For some fans in the capital of the Negev, Breda’s departure was not accepted in this spirit. Several hundred of them came to Eliniv Barda’s house and promised to boycott subscriptions. The fan organizations called the decision a “good spoonful”, as for them, Breda is the symbol of change in the club. Other currents in the audience responded and claimed that “everyone forgot who it was that brought Eliniv Barda back to Hapoel B.S. It was Alona Barkat and she remains. Before her we were in the national league, so a little respect wouldn’t hurt. Barda is important to all of us, but the Hapoel BS is more important than anything.
