Everton, threatened with relegation, sacks its coach hours before its FA Cup match sports

Everton, competing in the English Premier League, announced today, Thursday, the dismissal of its coach, Sean Dyche, hours before facing Peterborough in the third round of the FA Cup.

Everton said that Under-18 team coach Leighton Baines and club captain Seamus Coleman would take charge of the first team on an interim basis.

The club added in a statement, “Everton Football Club confirms that Sean Dyche has been relieved of his duties as coach of the men’s first team with immediate effect.”

“Ian Wan, Steve Stone, Mark Howard and Billy Mercer have also left the club. The process of appointing a new coach is ongoing and an update will be provided in due course.”

The new owners, the Friedkin Group, took over Everton last December, and Dyche said he had their support.

But Everton is now 16th in the standings after 19 matches, one point above the relegation zone. The team has not won a match since defeating Wolverhampton in early December, a series consisting of 5 matches without a victory.
