For his support of Palestine.. Germany prevents a former Greek minister from political activity

Former Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis said on Saturday that Germany banned his participation in political activities on its territory because of his statements in support of Palestine.

Varoufakis stated, in a post on his account on the X platform, that the German Ministry of the Interior banned him from participating in political activities in Germany.

Varoufakis indicated that he would not be able to visit Germany for political purposes, and that he was also prevented from attending meetings held online.

He stated that the reason for the ban was his speech in support of Palestine, which he planned to deliver during the Palestine Conference, in the German capital, Berlin, last Friday.

Varoufakis confirmed that the German police prevented him from giving his speech, so he decided to share the banned speech on his website on the Internet.

In his speech, Varoufakis stresses that the Palestinians have been living in a semi-open prison for nearly 80 years, have minimal food and water, have no contact with the outside world, and are periodically exposed to bombing.

He says: “The Palestinians do not have even a tree left to enjoy its shade and taste its fruits in the limited area in which they live.”

He refers to the killing of Palestinian children by Israeli snipers.

It affirms that it condemns genocide and war crimes regardless of who commits them; “Because we oppose racism in the Israeli-Palestinian territories, as well as in South America and South Africa. Because we defend equality, universal human rights and freedom among Jews, Palestinians, Bedouins and Christians in the territories of historic Palestine.”

On Friday, the British surgeon of Palestinian origins, President of the University of Glasgow in Scotland, Ghassan Abu Sitta, announced that he was invited to attend the Palestine Conference in Berlin, but the German authorities prevented him from participating.

Abu Sitta said, in a post on the X platform: “The German government forcibly prevented me from entering the country. Silencing a witness to the genocide before the International Court of Justice increases Germany’s complicity in the ongoing massacre.”

On Friday, the German police broke up the “Palestine Conference” during a live broadcast by the Palestinian researcher Ghassan Abu Sitta, who prevented him from entering its territory and participating in the conference, and refused to even allow him to give a video intervention.

Abusta is described as a witness to the “crimes of genocide” in Gaza, and he is one of the survivors of the Baptist Hospital massacre, which was committed by the Israeli army, as he announced his testimony before the International Criminal Court against Tel Aviv.

Abusta went to the Gaza Strip on October 8, with the start of the Israeli aggression, to participate as a volunteer doctor in Al-Shifa Hospital and the Baptist Hospital.

Abusta documented the Israeli army’s attacks on the health sector until it left Gaza in mid-November.
