French authorities prevent Feyenoord fans from attending the Lille match

The French authorities prevented fans of the Dutch football team Feyenoord from traveling to Lille to attend the final round match between the two teams in the league stage of the Champions League.

The French Ministry of the Interior stated, in an order issued on Wednesday, that there is a “real and serious danger of a confrontation” between supporters of the two teams.

Lille will host Feyenoord on the 29th of this month at Pierre Maurois Stadium.

The French authorities stated that Feyenoord’s movements and trips often witness “disturbances in public order, due to violent behavior by some fans or individuals who claim to be fans of this team,” pointing to several examples of fan violence.

To justify its decision, the ministry added that among the 3,600 fans, 500 of them were identified as dangerous individuals who were planning to travel to Lille, despite the fact that only 2,600 seats were allocated to Feyenoord fans.

The ministry stated: “Among the 1,000 fans who planned to travel without an entry ticket to the stadium, it is feared that some of them will attempt to storm the stadium.”
