Barcelona announced today, Wednesday, that German Hansi Flick will take over as coach of the club’s football team, succeeding Xavi Hernandez.

The club stated in a statement that Flick (59 years old) signed a two-season contract, which extends until 2026.

Flick became the first coach from Germany to coach Barcelona, where his compatriots, goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, and Ilkay Guendogan are present.

This coach won 7 titles, including the treble in 2020, during the period in which he coached Bayern Munich from 2019 to 2021.

After that, Flick took over coaching his country’s national team, but he left in September 2023 after a series of negative results.

He also previously worked as an assistant to Jochem Loew, the former coach of the national team, and at that time he won the 2014 World Cup.

Xavi, the former captain of Barca, said last January that he would leave, but he retracted his decision and preferred to stay, and was dismissed by President Joan Laporta last Friday.

Xavi took over as coach of Barcelona in 2021 and led the team to win the league title in 2023.
