“I am 100% Spanish, but!” Brahim Diaz surprised Morocco after Walid Regragui summoned him

Brahim Diaz, the Spanish Real Madrid player, expressed his happiness at being called up to the Moroccan national team, stressing that he chose to play for the Atlas Lions with complete conviction.

Diaz, 24 years old, had settled on representing the Moroccan national team at the international level, instead of Spain, even though Spain coach Luis de la Fuente intended to summon him to this month’s camp, according to AS newspaper.

Diaz said in statements to Spanish radio station La Cadena Ser: “I did not choose Morocco to put pressure on the Spanish Federation or to force them to include me in the La Roja national team.”

He added: “My heart is divided between the two countries, Spain and Morocco. I feel that I am 100% Spanish, and also 100% Moroccan.”

The Real Madrid star continued: “Do I celebrate if I score a goal against Spain? I don’t know what to say about this matter at the moment, but I am 100% convinced that I made the right decision (representing Morocco).”

In this context, the nationality field on the player Brahim Diaz’s home page on the official website of La Liga was changed from Spanish to Moroccan, in preparation for the player to represent the Atlas Lions team, starting from the next international break this March.

It is noteworthy that Walid Regragui, the coach of the Moroccan national team, had announced the Atlas Lions list, which witnessed the presence of Diaz for the first time with the team that won fourth place in the recent World Cup in Qatar.
