The incident of Qur’an reader Muhammad Hamid Al-Sakkawy stopping at dawn on Thursday was not the first of its kind, as he had become accustomed to these incidents in previous years, until he became the topic of social media for long periods, due to his manipulation of verses and dancing during recitation and mistakes in recitation.

The name “Al-Selkawi” topped the search engines at that time because there were many Egyptians inside and outside Egypt who were keen to hear the Friday Quran, because of its special rituals among Egyptians, as they were interested in knowing the reader who recites the Friday Quran so that they could watch it on television screens or various radio broadcasts.
The decision to suspend “Al-Selkawi” in December 2023 came a year after he was suspended for 12 months on December 22, 2022, due to a video clip that was circulated of the reader performing movements while reciting the Qur’an during one of the condolences, which the Readers’ Syndicate described as not befitting the book of God Almighty.
In the early hours of dawn today, Thursday 2/11/2024, a state of intense anger arose among social media pioneers, as a result of the mistakes the reader made while reciting the Fajr Qur’an, demanding that Egyptian Radio investigate what happened with him, which the radio did a few hours later. From the incident, especially since Sheikh Muhammad Hamid Al-Silkawi used to stir up controversy during his recitation of the Holy Qur’an in various funerals, as he made movements that were not appropriate for the Book of God Almighty, which led to his being stopped more than once.
A number of specialists in the provisions of the Qur’an and researchers in recitation published a number of criticisms of Al-Salkawi, as they demanded that he be held accountable for repeating his mistakes during the past period in reciting the Holy Qur’an.
The errors contained in Sheikh Muhammad Al-Silkawi’s recitation of the Fajr Qur’an today amounted to 11 errors, causing the reader to face a huge amount of criticism through various social media outlets, followed by a strong comment from Sheikh Muhammad Hashad, head of the Syndicate of Reciters, Sheikh of all Egyptian reciters, who confirmed that the reciter Muhammad Al-Silkawi will be summoned. The “Captain of the Reciters’ Syndicate” indicated that the Syndicate is waiting for the Egyptian Radio’s decision regarding the reciter Sheikh Muhammad Al-Selkawi, and the appropriate decision will be taken after the investigation session with him, expecting him to be banned from foreign radio stations, and to be limited to broadcasting his recorded recitations.
The statements and decisions of the Readers’ Syndicate did not contain the anger of the pioneers of social networking sites, so other statements came from the Egyptian Radio, following the statements of the Readers’ Syndicate, as Mohamed Nawar, head of the Egyptian Radio, revealed that a decision had been issued to suspend the reader, Mohamed Al-Selkawi, for a year, after the mistakes he made while reciting the Qur’an. The head of Egyptian Radio said in statements to “Masrawy” that the aforementioned reciter has been suspended for a year, confirming that his matter is scheduled to be presented to the committee of reciters and supplicants after the blessed Eid al-Fitr holiday to approve his validity or not, as it is possible that the committee may decide to suspend him permanently for repeating the mistakes that he made.
