The official Jordanian News Agency (Petra) quoted an official source on Wednesday as saying that these weapons were sent “by militias supported by one of the countries to a cell in Jordan,” and that they were confiscated when the cell members, who were Jordanians, were arrested in late last March.

Earlier today, Reuters quoted two well-informed Jordanian sources as saying that Jordan had thwarted a suspected plot by Iran to smuggle weapons into the Kingdom in order to help opponents of the monarchy carry out acts of sabotage.

The two sources said that the weapons were sent by Iranian-backed factions in Syria to a cell affiliated with the group Muslim Brotherhood In Jordan, it has links to the military wing of Hamas. They added that the weapons were seized when the cell members, who were Jordanians of Palestinian origin, were arrested in late March.
