Jordan closes its airspace to flights

The Civil Aviation Regulatory Authority in Jordan announced on Saturday that the Kingdom had decided to temporarily close its airspace to all incoming, departing and transiting aircraft, “in light of the escalation of surrounding risks in the region.”

The authority said in a statement that it “took a decision to temporarily close Jordanian airspace to all arriving, departing and transiting aircraft, starting at 20:00 UTC, i.e. 11:00 pm (Saturday), local time, for the next several hours.”

She added, “This will be updated and reviewed continuously according to developments.”

The authority explained that the decision was taken “to preserve the safety and security of civil aviation in Jordanian airspace, in light of the escalation of surrounding risks in the region, and after assessing the risks in accordance with internationally followed standards.”

On the other hand, the Minister of Government Communications and the official spokesman for the Jordanian government, Muhannad Al-Mubaidin, denied declaring a state of emergency in the Kingdom.

The official Jordanian news agency (Petra) quoted the minister as saying, “We deny the allegations made about declaring a state of emergency in Jordan.”

The minister said in a statement to the Jordanian News Agency (Petra), “Everything that was reported by some media outlets about declaring a state of emergency in Jordan is completely baseless.”
