Kuwait announces the withdrawal of citizenship from 11 people, including Hakim Al-Mutairi

The Kuwaiti Council of Ministers decided to revoke the citizenship of 11 people, including Hakim Al-Mutairi, who has been in Turkey for years, following the issuance of sentences of up to life imprisonment against him against the backdrop of the Gaddafi leaks case.

In its decision, the Supreme Committee for Nationality Investigation relied on Article 11 of the Kuwaiti Nationality Law, which stipulates that a citizen who obtains the nationality of another country loses his Kuwaiti nationality.

The decision included 5 people, whose nationality was Kuwaiti by establishment, the most prominent of whom was Hakim Al-Mutairi, one with a seventh nationality, two with an original seventh nationality, Paragraph 3, and three with Article Eight nationalities, naturalized from Saudi, Syrian, and Egyptian nationalities.

It is noteworthy that Al-Mutairi has been residing in Turkey for several years and has been sentenced to life imprisonment since April 2021, after secret recordings spread in 2020 from the tent of the late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.
