This morning, Dr. Mustafa Mbouli, Prime Minister, began an inspection tour of the city of St. Catherine in South Sinai Governorate. To follow up on the final stages of projects to develop the site of the Great Transfiguration on the Land of Peace, he also inspects a number of tourism projects in the city, and is accompanied by Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, Dr. Assem Al-Gazzar, Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, Major General Hisham Amna, Minister of Local Development, and Lieutenant General Mohamed Abbas Helmy, Minister of Civil Aviation, Ahmed Issa, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Dr. Zahi Hawass, former Minister of Antiquities and international expert, Major General Mahmoud Nassar, Head of the Central Agency for Reconstruction, Engineer Abdel Muttalib Mamdouh, Vice President of the New Urban Communities Authority, and Engineer Amin Ghoneim, Deputy Chairman of the New Urban Communities Authority.

The Prime Minister and his entourage were received by Major General Dr. Khaled Fouda, Governor of South Sinai, Dr. Enas Samir, Deputy Governor, and a number of officials from the Engineering Authority of the Armed Forces, and the governorate’s executive leadership.

Following his arrival, the Prime Minister confirmed that this visit comes within the framework of periodic follow-up of the executive position of the components of the project to develop the “Site of the Great Transfiguration on the Land of Peace,” which is being implemented at the commission of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, within the framework of the plan to develop the city of St. Catherine and its status. With its appropriate status, by maximizing the use of the tourism components of this city, which has an archaeological, spiritual, religious and environmental nature, as this project takes into account global environmental sustainability standards, preserves the architectural heritage, and raises the spiritual value of the region.

Dr. Mustafa Madbouly said: We have clear guidance in this regard from His Excellency Mr. President to pay attention to all the details of the project, so that this unique spot becomes a global destination for visitors from all over the world, by continuing to implement this integrated project with unremitting efforts, in line with the status of that spot. The sacred land of Egypt, which God honored by being transfigured over it, and to present it to humanity and peoples around the world in a way that befits it, in appreciation of its unique spiritual value that stems from its being an incubator for the three heavenly religions.

The Prime Minister began the visit by inspecting the complete development and expansion work taking place at St. Catherine International Airport, where he listened to an explanation from Major General Ahmed Sorour, Assistant Director of the Military Engineers Department at the Armed Forces Engineering Authority, about the airport development project, noting in this regard that the airport development projects, Implemented by the Department of Military Engineers, it includes 3 main components: the administrative and service area, the passenger terminal area, and the technical area.

In this context, the Assistant Director of the Department of Military Engineers explained that the administrative and service area includes the toll gate, an advanced guard point, and a soldiers’ accommodation building, in addition to maintenance buildings, a garage, waste, and a meteorological building, in addition to a gas station tank, and 4 electricity dispensers, as well as For the corridor lighting building, the apron insurance building, as well as a mosque that can accommodate 400 worshipers, a 1,500 m3 water tank, housing for workers, and a warehouse building.

At the same time, Major General Ahmed Sorour explained that with regard to the passenger terminal area, it includes the passenger lounge with a capacity of 600 passengers per hour, which includes the travel lounge, the international and local arrival hall, and the VIP hall, in addition to the permits building, the refrigeration station, as well as a special power station for the terminal. In addition to a parking area for 227 cars.

Regarding the technical area, he pointed out that it includes the establishment of an observation tower with a height of about 30 meters to achieve a view of the aviation field, a fire building, a corridor lighting building, an electricity distributor, and a fire tank, adding that the development work also includes the construction of a main corridor 3,000 meters long, and raising The efficiency of the existing corridor with a length of more than 2000 metres, as well as the construction of an apron for aircraft parking lots to accommodate 8 aircraft, in addition to the establishment of service roads for the airport, including the development of the main road at the airport entrance with a width of 35 meters and a length of 1200 meters and a number of 4 lanes in each direction, in addition to the implementation of infrastructure works. To illuminate corridors; The airport will be prepared for night air traffic, with the construction of a fence around the airport.

He added that a system for rain drainage and protection of the airport from the dangers of floods is being completed, including the air field and all facilities, and many infrastructure works are being implemented, including water, sewage, and irrigation networks, an information systems network, general site coordination work, and a waiting area for buses and cars, pointing out. The implementation of the development projects is scheduled to be completed during the current year, with implementation rates reaching advanced levels, and work is underway to complete them during the coming period.

After that, the Prime Minister and his companions toured various parts of the airport. To learn about the progress of work on the ground, praising the level of implementation and directing the completion of the development project in a way that works to preserve the city’s position on the global level, considering the airport is the entry gate for visitors to the city’s heritage tourist destination.
