Pep Guardiola, coach of the English Manchester City football team, pledged to return his players to their best.
Manchester City failed to maintain its 1-0 lead against Manchester United yesterday, Sunday, losing 1-2.
Guardiola said – in statements published on the club’s official website – that there are elements of our natural way of playing that do not exist, and that he needs to know what they are to return his team to the path of victories, stressing that “there is something that we are missing.”
He added, “When you win matches, the energy is higher, but my job is not just to win matches and lift championships. I work to deal with these situations. Maybe in one year or a year and a half, we lost 8 matches and now in a month and 10 days we have lost 8 matches out of 11.” .
He added, “We were at the top of the league and the only undefeated team in Europe before these losses. We are a big club, and I am here because of what we did in the past. Otherwise, the clubs would not have supported their coach.”
“All the coaches around the world are working harder, thinking and talking more,” Pep stressed. “I have to tell them that we are still very good.” He pointed out, “I knew it would be a difficult season even when we were winners, but I did not expect it to be the way it is now.”
Guardiola stated that he felt that his team was not completely in control of the match, despite leading by a clean goal as the match entered its final moments.
He explained, “In the past, I might have assumed that we could win two minutes before the end of the match, but in the situation we are in, I never thought about that.”
He added, “We always play with this calmness that we do not have now after the number of matches we lost. Sometimes the spirit helps you find strength in these types of matches, and we were there, but it is not about that.”
Guardiola insisted, “I am the coach, and I have to find the solution.”
He concluded, “We lost a match again and we have to keep moving forward. I have to find a way to talk to them and train them on how to play and build.”
