GAME 17
Eastern Illinois looks to snap a three-game skid in the Ohio Valley Conference as the Panthers make a swing through Tennessee this week. The Panthers play at UT Martin on Thursday evening before traveling to Tennessee State on Saturday. EIU is 5-11 overall, 1-4 in the OVC after going 1-3 in their four-game OVC homestand over the last two weeks. The Panthers played all four of those games in a one-week window from January 2-9 with the last game a loss to Tennessee Tech. UT Martin split on the road last weekend winning in overtime at Western Illinois before a loss at Lindenwood dropping the Skyhawks to 7-10 overall, 3-3 in the OVC.
SHELTON WITH A DOUBLE-DOUBLE
Nakyel Shelton had seven double-doubles during his time playing for NAIA member Cardinal Stritch. Last Thursday against Tennessee Tech he collected his first double-double as an EIU Panther scoring 20 points and pulling down 13 rebounds. It was the ninth 20-point scoring game for Shelton as a Panthers including four times this year. It marked the second time in his EIU career he has pulled down double figure rebounds with the 13 an EIU high. Shelton has scored in double figures in 13 of 14 games this season with a season high 26 against Northern Illinois. He currently ranks third in the OVC in scoring at 17.2 points per game and second in the OVC in free throw percentage at 83.1 percent which includes two games this season with 11 made free throws.
EIU / MOREHEAD STATE SELECTED FOR ESPNU GAME
Eastern Illinois will host OVC leader Morehead State next Thursday, January 23 with the game selected for ESPNU as part of the conference’s linear television broadcast schedule. It marks the seventh time that EIU has hosted a game on ESPNU at Groniger Arena and the third time the Panthers have played Morehead State at home on ESPNU. The game has been slid back to an 8 p.m. start for TV from its originally scheduled 7:30 p.m. time slot.
EIU AND LITTLE ROCK MAKE-UP DATE SET
Eastern Illinois and Little Rock will play on Monday, January 27 as a reschedule date for the game that was postponed on Dec. 21 at Little Rock due to a death in the Trojans program. Game time is 2 p.m. on Lindenwood’s campus.
