Nikki Goldstein on coming out of the closet: “We didn’t feel betrayed, an affair without sex”

Goldstein, 46, says he knew from a young age that he was attracted to men, but he preferred to suppress it and try to move on (“It freaked me out”). As the years passed, he decided to marry Shirley, and decided that he would keep his “secret” to himself “until the grave.” However, something led to talk and he had to confess to her about his attraction to his best friend, Eyal. The comedian points out that this was not due to a desire to confess, but because “she just found out. She saw things she shouldn’t have seen. She looked things up on the phones and realized very quickly.”

He also said that the relationship between him and Eyal was forged during his marriage, but he explained: “We didn’t feel like we were cheating. When someone has an affair, he hides it, we didn’t have that.” His wife Shirley was sure that they were a couple of good friends, so it didn’t bother her that they were hanging out even late at night. As far as he and Eyal were concerned, it was quite clear that they would not reveal the secret. Goldstein also said: “It’s like I was in a romance without sex, a romance of falling in love and abnormal passion.”
