Today, the four mobile companies, Vodafone, Orange Egypt, Etisalat, and Telecom Egypt (WE), begin selling the first smart chip integrated into mobile phones (eSIM), after the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) officially announced today, Thursday, the launch of eSIM technology in the Egyptian market.

What is eSIM technology?

– The embedded SIM is a chip installed inside the mobile device and is not removable like the traditional SIM Card

– It works completely digitally and provides greater flexibility for users.

– Keeping pace with the latest global trends in the field of communications and information technology to shift from traditional chips to integrated ones in all devices and phones in the future.

Advantages of eSIM?

– Enable the user to operate more than one number on one device.

– Operating the phone during travel from any foreign mobile operator, without the need to remove the original SIM card.

– Store multiple operator profiles (e-profiles) on one device and switch between them.

Steps to activate the SIM if purchasing a new number:

– The customer visits the operating company’s branch to purchase a new mobile line with an integrated eSIM chip.

– The customer chooses the mobile number.

– The contract is signed for the eSIM line.

– The sales representative or customer service employee prints the QR code from the internal system.

– The customer activates the eSIM.

The validity of the QR code is only 5 days from the date of obtaining it, and in the event of exceeding the period, the customer must go to the branch of the company operating the service to replace the chip and receive a new QRCode.

Steps to activate SIM for existing phone numbers

– The customer visits the operating company’s branch to purchase an eSIM.

– The contract is signed for the eSIM.

– The sales representative or customer service employee switches the traditional SIM card to an eSIM on the same number.

– The sales representative or customer service employee prints the QR code from the internal system.

– The customer activates the eSIM.
