Liverpool legend Michael Owen has confirmed that the Reds can challenge Manchester City and Arsenal for the Premier League title this season.
Liverpool put their credentials into action with a crushing 3-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday, their third consecutive Premier League win and maintaining their perfect start under new manager Arne Slot.
“Liverpool can challenge Arsenal and Manchester City this season, but we are still at the beginning,” Owen told TVSporten.
“Slot is calm, he’s doing the right things, the team is playing really well with him, there’s been no big changes at all, so it’s felt like a smooth transition so far,” he added. “Of course there will be bigger tests in the future, but I think Liverpool fans are very happy that there are no big problems or anything like that.”
“Slot has to pick 3 out of 5 players in attack, so whoever doesn’t start will be disappointed. You can say that Darwin Nunez is not in his basic plans, but anything can happen with injuries and suspensions during the season,” he continued.
“You need a lot of players, people can jump to conclusions when a new manager comes in and think you won’t play at all, and I think Nunez is worried, he won’t want to spend a lot of time on the bench,” he concluded.
