Director Peter Mimi praised the performance of the artists Ahmed Abdel Wahab, Sarah Al-Shami, and Muhammad Youssef in the series “The Assassins,” saying: “The three performed their roles in an impressive manner. “And it’s not normal.”
He revealed during statements to the “Last Word” program with media personality Lamis Al-Hadidi, broadcast on the “ON E” screen on Sunday evening, that the work team faced difficulty in choosing an actor for the character “Yahya” to confront the character “Hassan Al-Sabah,” especially after the choice had taken place. The artist Nidal Al-Shafi’i plays the character “Imam Al-Ghazali”, who represents the intellectual side of the series.
He explained that the difficulty of the role lies in the fact that it carries a humanitarian issue rather than the role of a military fighter in the army, pointing out the hesitation of the artist Ahmed Abdel Wahab in accepting the role for fear of his inability to master it, especially since he is primarily a comedy writer.
He continued: “We put forward Ahmed Abdel Wahab’s name, sent him some scenes from the role, and asked him to come for an audition. At first, he was hesitant to attend; But it was his wife who encouraged him, and as soon as she saw him at the audition; I said he is (Yahya).”
He pointed out that “Abdul Wahab” apologized for presenting the character for fear of his inability to present the role well after reading the script, continuing: “He took the paper and read it, and then he apologized for the series. He said, ‘This is a big role. I am afraid I will spoil the series.’ I told him, ‘You are the best person you will present.’”
Director Peter Mimi also spoke about the young artist Sarah Al-Shami, stressing that she was very excited to play the role of “Nourhan” in the series, unlike Ahmed Abdel Wahab, who felt afraid of the size of the role, pointing out that she also felt afraid at first about the size of her role.
He added that the artist Mohamed Youssef played an important role in the series “The Choice 3” by embodying the character of the terrorist who killed Colonel Ahmed Al Mansi.
He stressed the necessity of having big stars like the artist Karim Abdel Aziz who encourage young talents and give them opportunities to highlight their abilities. He criticized some stars who do not accept the participation of younger generations in their work, saying: “In order for a new generation to emerge, there must be a big star like Karim Abdel Aziz who accepts and allows the youth.” Unfortunately, we have stars that do not accept the rising generation, and I see it as a lack of confidence.”
