Real Madrid coach Ancelotti is threatened with 4 years in prison sports

Today, Wednesday, the Spanish Public Prosecution demanded the imprisonment of Italian Carlo Ancelotti, coach of Real Madrid, the leaders of the soccer league, for 4 years and 9 months, on charges of tax evasion.

It indicated in a statement that it is demanding 4 years and 9 months in prison for the 64-year-old Royal Club coach, who is accused of evading the payment of more than a million euros in 2014 and 2015, because he did not declare the revenues from the rights to invest in his image.

This announcement comes hours before Real Madrid plays the second leg of the Champions League, which has won a record 14 times, against German Leipzig, after winning the first leg 1-0.

The Madrid Penal Court referred Ancelotti to court in the summer of 2023, after 3 years of investigation. According to the Public Prosecution, the trial date has not yet been set.

The prosecution explained in its statement, “Although he declared that he was subject to taxes in Spain and that his residence was Madrid, he only declared in his tax statement his personal revenues from Real Madrid,” and not the revenues from his image rights.

She added that this omission was voluntary and the Italian resorted to a network of “complex” and “confusing” companies to manipulate his image rights.

She added that he transferred his image rights to “actually inactive” entities based outside Spain, in order to “obfuscate the tax authorities in Spain.”

Ancelotti took over coaching Real last year, and left in May 2015 to supervise Bayern Munich. He later supervised the Italian club Napoli and the English club Everton before returning to the Royal Club in 2021. After being linked to training the Brazilian national team next summer, he renewed his contract with Real Madrid until 2026 in December.

He is considered one of the most prominent coaches in the history of the game. He won the Champions League title 4 times, two with AC Milan and the same with Real Madrid. He also won local leagues with Real Madrid, Milan, Chelsea, Bayern, and Saint-Germain, France.
