Microsoft has cut about 1,900 jobs from Xbox and Activision Blizzard And ZeniMax in January, followed by the closure of studios like Arkane Austin, Alpha Dog Studios, and Tango Gameworks in May, and according to the latest rumors, a new wave of layoffs is coming this week.
Report Speak Insider-Gaming About the recent layoffs, including senior product manager Angela Viness, design researcher Jessie, and technical program manager Cory Ebert, each of whom took to social media to reveal their positions had been eliminated.
Unfortunately, Tom Warren of The Verge reports that more layoffs are happening this week at Xbox and that Jessie has been let go while on leave.
The extent of the layoffs is unknown, but they could be part of a “broad cost-cutting initiative” for Xbox Game Studios that Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier reported in May.
As previously reported, the Xbox division has faced scrutiny from Microsoft After its acquisition of Activision Blizzard, but the direct reason for the recent layoffs is unknown.
