Tehran, May 23, 2024 (Xinhua) The body of the late Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, who was recently killed along with his companions in a helicopter crash, was buried today (Thursday) at the Imam Reza shrine in Raisi’s hometown in the city of Mashhad, northeast of the country, according to a report issued by a news agency. The report stated that Raisi’s body and the bodies of his companions who died in the same accident arrived at Mashhad International Airport this afternoon from Birjand, the capital of the southern Khorasan province in the east of the country, where a funeral ceremony was held for the late president and his companions earlier in the day, according to the report.
The mayor of Mashhad, Mohammad Reza Qalandar Sharif, told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) that at least 3 million people from Mashhad and other cities participated in the funeral ceremony.
The agency explained that the body of Hossein Amir Abdollahian, the late Iranian Foreign Minister, was buried today in a funeral ceremony south of the Iranian capital, Tehran.
