Maccabi Haifa finished the European campaign of the 2023/24 season on a high. The Italian team dominated from the beginning of the game and reached their situations, while the national champion mainly focused on making a defense and tried to launch quick passing attacks, without success at all.
After a neutral half in which Dego’s men did not threaten the goal at all, Antonin Barak, who scored the dramatic winning goal in the first match between the teams in Budapest, gave the hosts the lead with a great strike in the 59th minute. The Viola could have increased the advantage, but missed a lot. On the other side, Anan Halaili scored in the 88th minute and arranged tense minutes at the end.
The greens did not manage to drag the game into extra time and with a 1:1 at the end they ended their journey in Europe. The national champion has already counted three consecutive games without a win in all formats and now she will be able to concentrate all her efforts in the league in the fight for the championship, when she will try to get back on track this coming Sunday when she hosts Hapoel Tel Aviv as part of the final round of the regular season.
