In turn, the US Army announced on Saturday that its forces were able to shoot down 15 unidirectional drones launched by the Houthis in a large-scale attack in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.

The US Central Command (Centcom) stated – in a statement carried by the American (Al Hurra) channel today – that the Houthis carried out between (4 am and 6:30 am Sanaa time) a large-scale attack using unmanned aerial vehicles in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, and the leadership and forces identified The coalition, one-way unmanned aerial vehicles (OWA), determined that they represented an imminent threat to commercial and US Navy and coalition ships in the area and were able to shoot down 15 of the one-way drones.

The statement explained that these measures are being taken to protect freedom of navigation and make international waters safer in the Red Sea region, through which 12% of global trade traffic passes.

This comes after Centcom announced – earlier today – that American forces carried out a self-defense strike targeting two anti-ship missiles in areas controlled by the Houthis, noting that the two missiles were carried on a truck belonging to the Houthis.
