The resignation of the Egyptian government and Madbouly’s assignment to form another continues the “reform path”

Egyptian media reports stated that a date has been set to consider the lawsuit demanding the cancellation of the licenses of the Uber and Careem applications in Egypt, after many women and girls were subjected to kidnapping and sexual assault attempts.

“The site explained”Masrawy“The Administrative Judicial Court of the State Council has set June 5 to hold the first of these sessions to consider the case for canceling licenses, and to oblige the government to adopt an electronic monitoring system inside cars and link them to the Ministry of Interior to secure the entire trip.

The cassation lawyer, Amr Abdel Salam, had filed this lawsuit with the aim of canceling the licenses of Uber and Careem, due to “violating the terms of the licenses” issued to them after the “rate of kidnapping crimes” to which women and girls have been exposed during the past few months at the hands of some vehicle drivers has increased.

Earlier, some women and girls spoke to Al-Hurra website about the bad experiences they were exposed to while in cars dealing with Uber.

The thirty-year-old woman (M.B.) described her experience as “bad and does not want to recall her memories,” telling Al-Hurra website that “one day she was at her mother’s house, in Dokki, Giza Governorate, with her two daughters, one in primary school and the other in nursery. They had a number of bags and ordered an Uber to go to her house at five in the evening.”

She added, “She and her daughters were feeling very tired, and the two girls actually fell asleep in the car, but they remained awake.”

In an angry and sad voice, she continued, “After a while, when they arrived at the ring road in Cairo, I discovered that the driver was committing an indecent act, as he took off his underwear and showed his penis.”

She said that “at that time, she was not thinking about anything except trying to get her daughters out of this situation as quickly as possible, and she made sure that the driver had not locked the car door locks, and in a moment she asked him to stop quickly and escaped from the car with her two daughters.”

She added that she “did not think about the danger of the place where she landed or anything else because all that mattered to her was escape.”

The Egyptian Ministry of Interior stated, in a statement, that on May 12, it “received a report from one of the girls that while she was riding in a car belonging to one of the smart transportation applications, its driver took her to one of the areas in the second Nasr City Police Department, and tried to assault her while he was in possession of a white weapon ( A scalpel or cutter, which resulted in her being injured, and she was able to escape.”

The ministry added, “The perpetrator was arrested, as were the white weapon and the car used in the incident.”

Uber responded in a statement, reported by local media, and said, “As soon as we were informed of the incident, we contacted a member of the victim’s family to provide all possible support, and we are working closely with the authorities to provide all the information necessary to complete the investigation process.”
