There is a future? Barcelona’s home players arranged a victory for them in Almeria

The last three games as part of the 36th round of the Spanish league took place today (Thursday) with the focus: the outgoing champion Barcelona did not impress, but beat Almeria, who is locked in the table, 0:2 away. Las Palmas stopped the losing streak with 2:2 against Real Betis, and Real Sociedad took advantage of this and rose to sixth place at their own expense with 0:1 over Valencia.

Almeria – Barcelona 2:0

Girona’s loss to Villarreal gave the Catalans a chance to open up a four-point gap in second place, and that’s exactly what they did, albeit again not quite impressively, at the expense of the long-relegated table-toppers. After surrendering to Girona and Real Madrid in the last two away games, Barcelona was in danger of completing a negative streak that it had not had since December 2002 – three consecutive away losses in the league. But a year after losing 1:0 at Almeria, Barca benefited from the cooperation of its home players to return to victory. Hector Porte who took the place of the injured Balda as the starting left back, picked up from the wing and Fermin Lopes hit the first one from close range in the 14th minute. In the 67th minute Lopes completed a double with a sharp kick to the net after an accurate cross from Sergi Roberto.

Real Sociedad – Valencia 0:1

The stars aligned perfectly for the Basque side who not only secured a fifth consecutive season in the European Championship, but could also do so in the Europa League after the win over Valencia. Cobo set up Andre Silva for the winning goal in the third minute, when the Portuguese struck from close range and gave three points to Sociedad that lifted them at the expense of Betis to sixth place. Now, Sociedad leads Betis by a point with two rounds to go in the season in Spain, with sixth place leading to the Europa League, while seventh only to the Conference League.
