Prof. Yoram Marabi, a specialist in geriatrics from Hadassah Mount Scopus Hospital, was killed suddenly yesterday (Saturday) by falling off a cliff during a trip he went on. Prof. Marabi, in his 60s, also starred in the series “80 and Four” on Kan 11, and is considered one of the leading experts in Israel in the field of geriatrics.
Prof. Ma’ari worked to change the social perception towards the elderly and treat old age as a word of honor and an expression of wisdom.
His colleague in the field of care for the elderly said that “Prof. Ma’ari as a personal example would upload every week on Facebook a photo of himself with his elderly mother hanging out in a cafe in Jerusalem and in a national group of professionals in the field of gerontology he was the most active, uploading almost every day a poem by an Israeli/foreign poet , tells about his activity… really the living spirit. Yesterday at a quarter to eight in the morning he sent to this group that he was on his way to a trip.”
One of his friends wrote on Facebook: “A man of old men and children, soul of an artist and art, a creator and creation.”
Another colleague wrote: “Prof Ma’erbi was one of the leaders in the field of geriatric medicine, and devoted his energy and his entire life to improving the quality of life of the elderly. His unique work, the great professionalism and humanity that characterized him touched the hearts of everyone who came into contact with him. May his memory be blessed, And we will remember his enormous contribution to medicine and society.”
The Association of Guardians of Nursing Homes said: “The Association bows its head to hear the Good News of Job, on the untimely passing of the late Prof. Yoram Marabi (Hadassa Mount Scopus), one of the pioneers of geriatrics and rehabilitation in Israel, who contributed greatly to the advancement of the field of old age and medicine in Israel and around the world.
“Prof Ma’erbi was an inspiring figure, who combined uncompromising professionalism with extraordinary humanity. He left a deep mark in his clinical work, research and public activity for the adult population. Our community has lost a teacher, leader and dear friend whose contribution continues to accompany us and influence our professional world. We send Our condolences to his family and to everyone who had the privilege of working with him.”
