The management of the Spanish club Barcelona was keen to ask the team’s star, Ilkay Gundogan, about his opinion of coach Hansi Flick, who is nominated to lead the team next season.
Barcelona is preparing to abandon coach Xavi Hernandez in the next few days, and according to many newspapers, Flick is the closest to succeeding him, amid news about a negotiation session that took place in the English capital, London.
The Spanish “Cadena Cope” network said that Barcelona requested Gundogan’s opinion regarding the possibility of appointing 59-year-old Flick.
For his part, the German told the Barcelona administration that Flick was a good person during the period he worked with him, but he lacks some of the strong qualities that a candidate like Thomas Tuchel has.
It is not yet clear whether this opinion can have a negative impact on Flick’s appointment, because the most likely possibility is his appointment as coach of the Catalan team in his first job outside Germany.
Flick had worked with Gundogan and Marc-Andre ter Stegen during his experience with the German national team, and he also trained Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski during their time working together at Bayern Munich.
