The Egyptian army announced the death of two of its pilots following a helicopter crash on Tuesday, as a result of a technical malfunction during a training mission in the east of the country.
Army spokesman Colonel Gharib Abdel Hafez said, “As part of the Air Force’s training activity on Tuesday at 11:00 (08:00 GMT), a helicopter crashed in the Shaloufa area during training as a result of a technical malfunction.”
He explained that the incident “resulted in the martyrdom of two officers.” “The necessary measures are being taken by the competent authorities.”
Shaloufa is located in the Kabrit area in the Suez Governorate (124 kilometers east of Cairo), and there is a major air base for military helicopters in this area.
The military spokesman did not mention any other details about the model of the helicopter or the country that manufactured it.
The Egyptian forces have a diverse fleet of fighters and helicopters, especially Russian, American, and French.
It is noteworthy that in November 2022, the Egyptian army announced the downing of a fighter plane during training, without any deaths or damage.
In December 2019, the pilot of an Egyptian warplane that crashed due to a technical malfunction during a training flight survived after jumping with a parachute.
