“UEFA welcomes us.” An American proposal to host European Champions League matches

David Pearson, CEO of CBS Sports, has proposed that Champions League matches be played in the United States within the next six years.

CBS Sports broadcasts the Champions League and Europa League in the United States on its own network, and is closing in on a new six-year, $1.5 billion broadcast deal.

Pearson said, in statements reported by The Athletic newspaper, that he is optimistic about the possibility of the European Union organizing a Champions League match on American soil in the future.

He concluded: “We have nothing to say at this moment, but I would not be surprised if you see that over the next six years. It is something we welcome and I think the European Union wants as well.”

Europe and the world are awaiting the 2023-2024 Champions League final between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund next Saturday at Wembley Stadium in the British capital, London.
