Arsenal regained the lead in the English Football League after defeating its host Manchester United 1-0, today, Sunday, in the penultimate 37th round, maintaining its chances of winning the title at the expense of its holder, Manchester City.

By winning at Old Trafford with a goal from Belgian Leandro Trossard, Spanish coach Mikel Arteta’s team raised its score to 86 points, one point ahead of City, which fell to second place temporarily before facing Tottenham on Tuesday in a postponed match from the 34th round.

Arsenal, dreaming of its first title since 2004, will wait for a gift from its London neighbor so that its chances remain strong before the last match in which it hosts Everton, while City plays West Ham.

Dutchman Eric Ten Hag started the match in the absence of Portuguese Bruno Fernandes, one of his most prominent players, due to injury, while Ivory Coast’s Amad Diallo started the league for the first time since May 2021, despite his absence from many matches due to injuries.

Trossard opened the scoring when he received a ball from the brilliant German Kai Havertz, who was not offside due to a slow return from Casemiro. He played it into the area and his colleague easily put it into the net amid poor coverage from the Brazilian midfielder (minute 20).

Trossard also tried to add the second goal with a shot from the outskirts of the area, but it was caught by Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana (minute 64).

Havertz became the second player who contributed most goals in the league this season (scoring 8 and making 6, for a total of 14 goals), 5 goals behind Chelsea striker Cole Palmer.
