Why did Hassan Nasrallah remain vague about the nature of the party’s response to Israel?

Following the two attacks that targeted thousands of wireless devices owned by Hezbollah in Lebanon on Tuesday and Wednesday, leaving more than 35 dead and at least 3,200 wounded, Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah threatened Israel with “a harsh reckoning and just retribution.”

In his hour-long speech, Hassan Nasrallah acknowledged that the party had suffered “a major security and humanitarian blow, unprecedented in the history of the resistance in Lebanon.” He also acknowledged the strong impact of the two attacks on the morale of the party’s leadership and fighters, but then said, “This major and powerful blow did not bring us down and will not bring us down…”

Nasrallah pointed out that Israel was seeking to destroy the command and control system and spread chaos among the party’s fighters, “but that did not happen even for a single moment,” he said.

In an attempt to reassure the party’s supporters, Nasrallah said, “The Israeli enemy has crossed all laws, controls, and red lines… These explosions did not affect the structure of the resistance and its high readiness on the ground… What happened did not affect the leadership system or the presence on the fronts.”
