The consequences of the video published by Dr. Wissam Shuaib are still continuing, especially with the matter reaching the Public Prosecution, which began investigating it on Tuesday.
The controversy extended to talk about Shuaib’s specialty, especially with her promotion of herself and her clinic as a “specialist” in obstetrics and gynecology, treating infertility and delayed childbearing, while the Medical Syndicate’s records show that she is still a “general practitioner.”
Wissam previously said in statements to Masrawy yesterday that she works at Kafr Al-Dawwar General Hospital, without mentioning the nature of the academic degree she obtained, while a source in the Doctors Syndicate revealed to Masrawy that she works as a “resident doctor – obstetrics and gynecology” while continuing to obtain her degree. Fellowship in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
From a professional standpoint, a resident doctor, before obtaining qualifications and being promoted to the rank of specialist in the Medical Syndicate, is a “general practitioner,” regardless of the period of training in the specialty, according to the Center for Legal Support for Physicians.
The resident doctor does not have the right to open a specialist clinic. He only has the right to open a general practitioner clinic, and he is not permitted to write any specialties on the sign. After obtaining the qualification, he has the right to be promoted to the rank of specialist in the union and open a specialist clinic, according to the center.
“Shuaib” works in about 4 clinics between Alexandria and Kafr El-Dawwar, including a clinic in Amriya, Moharam Bey, and Kafr El-Dawwar in Beheira.
The doctor announced on her Facebook page that her clinic in Kafr El Dawar is organizing a doctor’s convoy at a nominal price of “20 pounds” for examination, next Friday, November 15.
What is required for registration in the “specialists” register?
According to the Medical Syndicate’s website, the steps required of an applicant for registration in the Syndicate’s roster of specialists or consultants include:
1- Union card
2- Payment of late union subscription
3- Proof of the doctor’s obtaining an academic degree (bringing the original)
4- Evidence that the doctor was actually working in the field of specialty subject to promotion (on the workforce) for the period mentioned in the tables one year after obtaining the academic degree.
If the doctor obtains a master’s degree, an Egyptian fellowship, a Royal College membership, a British fellowship, a Frachartz certificate, or a French diploma (Dis or Des), he is registered as a specialist immediately.
If he obtains a “diploma,” he will be registered as an assistant specialist, and will be transferred as a specialist after 3 years.
Dr. Khaled Amin, Assistant Secretary-General of the Doctors Syndicate, explained that she has not been suspended from work yet, as suspension is a punitive measure after the end of investigations, and she is supposed to be summoned and heard after the end of the Public Prosecution’s investigation into her.
