On the twenty-first of May every year, the world celebrates World Tea Day, one of the most common beverages that people consume in their daily lives, to raise awareness of its benefits and how to consume it in a healthy manner.
In this regard, Dr. Gamal Shaaban, former Dean of the National Heart Institute, stressed the necessity of drinking tea in light of three guidelines, to ensure benefiting from its high nutritional value.
Shaaban recommended not drinking tea immediately after eating, but rather waiting for at least half an hour, so that the body does not have difficulty absorbing iron.

The former dean of the Heart Institute appealed to tea lovers not to add sugar to it, and to drink it at a rate ranging from 3 to 5 cups throughout the day.
He stressed that tea is characterized by its high content of polyphenols, an antioxidant substance that helps improve public health and reduce the risk of chronic diseases.

Shaaban added that researchers in some studies have found that drinking black tea regularly provides significant protection against heart disease, thanks to it containing flavonoids, in addition to its ability to reduce levels of harmful LDL cholesterol in the blood.
He warned against high blood pressure, due to the serious complications it causes, stressing that drinking tea on a regular basis contributes to reducing systolic and diastolic pressure very efficiently.

He concluded his speech by pointing out that there are other benefits of tea, which are:
Tea plays a major role in strengthening the immune system, due to its antimicrobial properties.
Tea reduces the risk of stroke, which is the second leading cause of death around the world, according to studies.
Tea without sugar contributes to improving insulin sensitivity and reducing blood glucose levels.
Tea helps reduce the growth of cancer cells and prevent certain types of cancer.
A person becomes more focused when drinking tea, not only because it contains caffeine, but also because it is rich in “L-theanine,” which is an amino acid that helps to feel alert and enhance brain activity.
Tea makes elderly women less susceptible to strokes and coronary artery insufficiency, because its distinctive flavonoids reduce calcification of the aorta.
